There are 21 million cell phone users in the country but Malaysians send out a whopping 84 million text messages a day. Assuming each SMS costs an average of 10 sen, Malaysians are spending about RM8.4 million a day on text messages. These figures, released by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, were based on the premise that one person sends four messages a day.

But that is a conservative estimate as people send more than four messages a day and some cell phone users are constantly texting. By the third quarter of last year, 23.4 billion text messages had been sent — higher than the figure for the whole of 2005. Malaysians had sent 14.4 billion messages and by the end of that year, the number soared to 22 billion.

Most SMS senders tend to be teenagers or young working adults. Me ? I text about 1500 texts / month. Whats your magic number? ^_^
