PCFAIR Malaysia DEC 2006 Coverage

2005-12-05 03:44:29
Well another fair since i came back from the UK. Thats twice within 6 month. Shocking ! I always under the impression that PCFAIR occurs once a year but apparently not. Anyway whats new in this end of the years pcfair? Here are some stuff that cought my attention :

1. Sony TX Laptops
Oh man they were hot ! (im talking about the chicks) They were chicks hovering around with the TX laptops and man they were sexy ! A sexy chicks with sexy laptops such the TX turns me on even more. Though TX is a little bit pricy compared to other available laptops out there. Might better off with OQO then the TX i supposed but its preference based. For me .. hmmm .. maybe OQO.

2. Sony N1
The first ever digital camera with touch screen LCD. Wow never see that coming. Ive held it physically and toy around with it, pushing the screen button, taking pictures, testing response time of the menus, observing how menus are well GUI-ed, all i can say is .. bluwekkkk ... horrible camera. Interface not attractive, camera considered bulky of its family (prolly because of the touchscreen) and a whopping 8 megapixel which u prolly need a 1GB Memorystrick to have a decent amount of shots. Overall, just another experiment of Sony with the touchscreen feature. Oh yeah, and it has the pointing out kind of zoom not the vertical zoom feature on the T-Series that Sony has.

3. PVR Media Centre (Malaysian TIVO Apparently)
This was unique. I might say this is the first TIVO immitation for Malaysian broadcast that ive ever known and saw so far. It has quite a great feature with photo album, dvd player, tv, tvguide, etc. the usual. During the demo i was presented with this guy who actually did ask me this ridicoulous question "this it a wireless keyboard, do u know what a wireless keyboard is?" ffs the title speaks it self WIRELESS KEYBOARD! Though he apologized for his underestimation of my knowledge though coz i laugh when he ask me that. Fair enuff, but later when i ask him how does the TV guide syncs with malaysian free to air tv to record shows that has been pre-scheduled to be recorded. (He doesnt know a thing). He even said that CNN was live at that time and where the fuck did CNN came from on free to air malaysian tv network? Though later he asked his superior about it and the superior said that it was a live streaming video. Yaeh rite. Streaming video with RGB sync errors .. those errors only come in ariel reciever man .. If you wanna promote your product, be real, tell the truth of what it can do, dont coverup with some video footage you recorded earlier and claim its streaming directly from the net. Please... we dont want prodcut which is "indah khabar dari rupa". Though their chick was really hot. Id rather had the chick explain it to me. ^_^

4. ViewSonic 3ms LCD
This has been out for quite some time now in the news, havent really tried to find or found any in lowyat or anywhere. I went to the view sonic booth saw a very cute girl giving introduction about viewsonic. Kawaiii ...

5. Celcom 3G Internet Access Provider
Though it may seemed common around phone shops in sgwang, this time Celcom is offering a FREE 3 Month Subsribtion with upfront deposit of RM50 (without the PC Card though) PCFAIR offer only. And apparently after 3 month you can terminate your contract and enjoy life as usual. Though apparently the salesgirl didnt really want to verify about the termination. Im sensing ada udang di sebalik batu. Though they were hot malay chicks though. ^_^

6. Kesington Flat Keyboard
I fell in love upon touching the key. Its flat as the laptop keyboard and its white ! A whopping RM125 price i bargained but didn't end up buying because of the Insert,Delete,Home,End,PageUp,PageDown buttons. It wasnt the 6 squares together above the arrow key button. It was different, due to the small size of the keyboard.

7. Xircom - Credit Card Sized PDA 1997 Technology
I remembered last time during my days in high school where theres no internet access in my boarding school and the only way i can know about new gadgets is thru popular science and popular mechanis they provide in the library. I always waited for new releases to come out and in one of those issues showed this "New Stuff" section that had this PDA. Man those were the days. Now i cant even keep up with engadget. I did ask the guy promoting the thing (it was cheap RM50) and slot right thru your PCMCIA slot for laptops and i asked him, "can sync with outlook?" he said "yes definately theres emails bla bla" when i opened the email menu theres only email addresses but no mail, then i asked again "so can we sync the emails as well?" he said "yes you can.. you open the mail, copy the mail and then paste in memo .. then u sync!" ............... -_-

8. Stupid Skype Phone - WINNER
The winner of the most useless invention in this year's PCFAIR, Skype Phone. It looks like a normal telephone with the curly wires connected to USB. Though what does it do ? It will just handshake with the Skype program (www.skype.com) Yes, the official Skype program not Skype Malaysia or anything and acts as a microphone and speaker. It uses SkypeOut credit just any normal skype. The dialpad on the phone acts as keypad and dials the number on to the skype program, press send and it will act as if you're clicking the Green Telephone icon on skype. So what good does this thing do to your Skype experience? None. The hassle to hold the phone on to your ear, instead of using a microphone headset which is handsfree btw would be a hell lot easier. The only good reason i would think of getting this if i want to have seperate audio for Skype and my windows session audio. Then this would be a great alternative. Other than that, if you're fine mixing your Skype audio with Windows audio, i suggest get a RM10 mic would do the same thing that this does.

Thast all i can think of for my experience in this PCFAIR. I didnt win the Typing of the Dead contest though. I really wanted that Adidas shoes ! Waaaa... i got back downloaded the game and i scored 2000++ damn. Should have typed faster. But i did win some stuff from Gameflier :) it made my lil brother happy (not that bro) with all the online game they gave away. Ah well ... another 6 month before the next pc fair. DAMN !
