Google Hacked - A Historical Event

Is Google down? Is such a thing even possible? Anyone know what’s going on?

Ok, to be fair, no one knows for sure that Google got hacked, this story is still developing. But hacked or not, something pretty catastrophic must have happened for them to have a system-wide outage like that. Sounds like there may have been some sort of Denial of Service attack, whether that was combined with a redirect of some kind isn’t entirely clear. We’ll keep you posted

Google is now saying it was a DNS issue. They haven’t said what the source of the issue was.

UPDATE:
In total, the search engine was down for about an hour and early reports that the site was victim of a DNS poisoning attack were apparently incorrect. They were based around the appearance of a site called "SoGo Search" when one surfer typed google.com into his browser. Safari couldn't find that site so cycled round and ended up on google.com.net - which redirects to that page.

In a statement, Google spokesman David Krane said the problem was related to DNS - but was apparently down to a problem at Google's end. "It was not a hacking or a security issue," said Krane.
