Spimming

About 17 million US adults have received unsolicited instant messages, or about 30% of all adult IM users in the US.

These findings emerge from a new report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project on the growing problem of "spim" — unsolicited messages, similar to spam e-mails, that are sent over instant messaging (IM). Pew conducted a telephone poll between January 13 and February 9 among 2,201US adults to gauge their use of IM and their experiences with spim.
