Half-Life 2, the sequel to 1998's hit Valve video game, overcame development obstacles to become one of the most successful games of 2004, selling 1.7 million copies in just one and a half months, the GameSpot Web site reported.

In Half-Lfe 2, a PC first-person shooter, gamers battle an alien invasion as the crowbar-toting physicist Gordon Freeman, the site reported.

Half-Life 2 was delayed for more than a year from its original September 2003 release date, and some of its source code was stolen and posted on the Web after Valve's network was hacked, the site reported.
